Here's more about Ellie in her own words...
I fell in love with yoga the very first time I stepped onto a mat. I was pregnant with my first child and decided to take a pre-natal yoga class. Instead of feeling limited by my ever-changing shape, I felt that yoga was teaching me to open my body in new ways. I continued with yoga after my son was born and never looked back.
There are so many things I enjoy about yoga… the challenge of a vigorous asana practice, the thrill of going upside down, and the uncertainty of balancing poses. I love that I can end a practice feeling strong, yet soft. Centered, yet expansive. Energized, yet calm.
Yoga has taught me much about life off the mat as well….I’ve learned to intuitively listen to my body and to breath during difficult situations. I’ve found that there is a delicate balance between effort and surrender. Yoga has inspired me to be playful and to try new things. I’ve learned that it’s OK to be still.
Seven years into my yoga practice, I found Anusara yoga. I immediately connected with its uplifting philosophy and elegant Universal Principles of Alignment. Teaching since 2007, Anusara remains my biggest influence.
I live in Elmhurst with my very tall husband and two children. I feel very lucky to be able to share yoga in the community where I live. I’ve been called a “social butterfly” since I was a little girl, and have always been energized by being around other people. I love movies with buttered popcorn, books of every kind, meeting new people, big cities, dinner parties and summer BBQs, reading with my kids, Yankee candles, working in my yard, family bike rides, Thanksgiving, playing piano, red wine and salty snacks.
Things I really, really appreciate….. grace, my health, my husband’s sense of humor, my fantastic kids, daily phone calls with my sister, old friendships, excellent teachers, and a job that I love doing.
I truly believe that everybody can benefit from yoga….it is not only for the very flexible. You just need to start. In my classes, we remind each other to celebrate life and we support one another. We work hard. We laugh. A lot. If you would like to come and play with us, I would be honored to see you in one of my classes.
